ASUU Insists Strike Must Continue

The Federal University of Technology, Minna chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has insisted that the strike declared by the union must continue.
This is in spite of appeals made to the union by prominent Nigerians for the strike to be called off in the interest of Nigerian students.
A statement by the Secretary of the union, Dr. Gbolahan Folarin, made available to all members, a copy of which was given to THISDAY yesterday,  advised all its members to ignore any directive to the contrary.

IPOB Sit-at-home order: Police allay fear of possible breach of peace in Enugu 12/Sep/2018

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mohammed Danmallam, has allayed fears of a possible breach of public peace in the state due to the sit-at-home order by the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB). Danmallam, therefore, urged banks and other financial institutions, markets and business outfits not to panic but to go about their normal businesses. He made the remark on Tuesday at a meeting with the Bankers Forum in Enugu, saying that banks, financial institutions, markets and the residents should feel safe to open for business. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting came against the backdrop of the Sept. 14 sit-at-home order in the South-East by IPOB. Umahi bans journalists ‘for life’, declares press not safe in Ebonyi

2020 By Emmanuel Ideba  Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has banned correspondents of The Sun Newspaper, Chijioke Agwu, and Vanguard Newspaper, Peter Okutu, from entering the Government House or any government facility in the state. Umahi, on Wednesday in a live broadcast, declared that Ebonyi people were very angry with the press and may “unleash mayhem” on them. He expressed his displeasure with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), for failing to discipline their members. Umahi said: “I want to say that I am very displeased with the president and leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and I am going to seize their allowances for two months because they have failed to discipline their members. “Ebonyi State is no longer a dumping ground.
