The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Mohammed Danmallam, has allayed fears of a possible breach of public peace in the state due to the sit-at-home order by the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB). Danmallam, therefore, urged banks and other financial institutions, markets and business outfits not to panic but to go about their normal businesses. He made the remark on Tuesday at a meeting with the Bankers Forum in Enugu, saying that banks, financial institutions, markets and the residents should feel safe to open for business. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting came against the backdrop of the Sept. 14 sit-at-home order in the South-East by IPOB. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has disclosed that the validity of Nigerian passports will be extended from five to 10 years. This was disclosed by the agency's Comptroller-General, Muhammed Babandede, when he visited the Ikoyi passport office in Lagos, on Thursday, July 26, 2018. Babandede said President Muhammadu Buhari has given directives to extend the validity period to ease the stress of renewing passports. He also noted that the extension will incur more costs for Nigerians who get the passports. He said, "He (Buhari) has approved 10-year validity for passports which is great news. When the report comes, passports will be valid for 10 years which is great news especially for adults from the age of 18 and above. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has announced its top seven best candidates in the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME. The exam body said this became necessary as a means of making data for research, reportage and other national disposition available. JAMB’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in a statement yesterday announced Galadima Zakari, a candidate who sat for the exam in Ogun State, as the best with a score of 364. Earlier, reports had it that Ape Moses, a candidate from Benue State had the highest score of 354 in the 2018 UTME.
